“This event is co-presentation with The Équipe de recherche en études queer au Québec (ÉRÉQQ), VersUs Centre de recherche – Université de Sherbrooke, and Fierté Montréal.

Suzette Mayr will be joining us to discuss The Sleeping Car Porter, her 2022 novel about the life of Baxter, a queer black man working as sleeping car porter on a Canadian train crisscrossing the country in 1929. The book won the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Daniel Allen Cox will be speaking about his recent book, I Felt the End Before It Came: Memoirs of a Queer Ex-Jehovah’s Witness, a collection of riveting essays about growing up in, and leaving, the religion.

And Katia Grubisic will be joining us to discuss her translation of the legendary Marie-Claire Blais’s work, including, most recently, Nights Too Short To Dance, which is being published posthumously this fall, as Blais passed away in November 2021.

Books will be available for sale onsite, provided by Librairie Paragraphe Bookstore.”
