On the 6th floor of the Webster Library Building in Room LB 677, the Richler Library holds a collection of books and archival objects from Richler’s personal library. The collection consists of over 5500 books, thousands of pages of typescript, periodicals, personal agendas, correspondence, financial documents, photographs, prints and drawings, newspaper clippings, audio recordings, ephemera, personal documents, and regalia.
Holding this reading event amid this collection is inspired by an impulse to extend the Richler Library outwards into the city. Richler wrote about this city, but what does it mean to write in and about Montreal / Tiohtià:ke now? What do writings of this place sound like? What kinds of reflections of this place do we see in the writings about it? These questions could be asked of so many local writers at our present moment, and this reading is only one of many places to ask these questions. We hope you will join us!
Organized and hosted by Dr. Katherine McLeod (https://wherepoetsread.ca/), with the support of and in collaboration with the Richler Library Project (http://richlerlibrary.ca/about/).
